St Michaels Church

Stanwix, Carlisle

Repairs, improvements and minor re-ordering to a grade 2 listed church building, which is an important city landmark situated in a conservation area within the scheduled Monument Area of Hadrian's Wall and Vallum.

The proposals mainly consist of of repairs to stonework, roof and rainwater disposal system with improvements to the heating, lighting and sound system together with provisions for easier access.

The re-ordering proposals are minor in that they are intended to provide a flexible seating area in fron tof the sanctuary. Initial proposals to remove all pews and intoduce a meeting area with kitchen, toilets and office below a new gallery at the west end of the church were not proceeded with.
