Johnston and Wright won a design competition in 1992 for a proposed Laboratory/office complex within the lovely but disused, walled garden section of the Westlakes Science and Technology Park.
Work commenced on the site in October 1993 and was completed by September 1994 at an approximate cost of £1,500,000.
The Building comprises Research Facilities, Laboratories and Offices on Two Levels. The initial winning design concept of the building sitting astride the existing stone wall and opening out into the walled garden survived the construction journey and became a reality
The juxtaposition of essentially hi-tech building with natural surroundings combines modern technology of cladding or steel construction with traditional craft skills in masonry walling. This has resulted in a wonderfully appealing addition to the science Park.
